Program Schedule!

We've got powerhouse panels lined up for this year's camp. Click here for the full program!

Here's a sampling:

  • Shanahan speaker Andrea Batista Schlesinger of the Drum Major Institute Saturday night.

  • A panel on the international coverage of women with freelance photojournalist Paola Gianturco, photojournalist Lois Raimondo of the Washington Post and Voice of America videographer Sahar Sarshar. These panelists will also show some of their work.

  • A panel on covering science and the environment with New York Times Science Editor Laura Chang, Co-director of Boston University's science journalism program Ellen Ruppel Shell, Knight Chair in Health and Medical Journalism at the University of Georgia Patricia Thomas and science journalist K.C. Cole.

  • A panel on work-life balance with former editor-in-chief of Essence and Ms. magazines, Marcia Gillespie and author Courtney Martin.

  • A political roundtable about coverage of the 2008 election led by Politico.com's Beth Frerking, Chicago Sun-Times D.C. bureau chief Lynn Sweet, Concord Monitor editor Fellice Belman and Ann Friedman of the American Prospect.

  • A Saturday luncheon with keynote speaker Connie Schultz, a columnist with the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

  • A multimedia speed training with sessions on shooting video, editing video/audio, using content management systems to produce stories online and creating interactive graphics.

  • We've got two breakfast table discussions planned: One on journalism fellowships and another on how to get an Op-Ed published.

  • And a panel on “reinventing yourself” in the new journalism frontier. It will focus on what skills should never die out in journalism and how to best interweave the new ones.

  • Did we forget the fun? Never.

Charreah Jackson has agreed to kick the festivities off Friday night with another one of her poems about JAWS. Ellen Ruppel Shell is planning a hike in the New Hampshire mountains. We'll have the traditional - and hilarious - talent show on Saturday night and close the festivities on Sunday night with a Copy Editing Slap Down competition and a JAWS tradition – Whine and Wine.

There's much more on the agenda. We hope you'll come and participate in discussions in what is a crucial time -- and year -- in the history of our craft.
