2009 Fellowships Available
The Journalism & Women Symposium, celebrating its silver anniversary this year, offers competitive fellowships of up to $750 for its fall gathering in Utah.
Our JAWS “camp,” as it’s informally known, will take place Oct. 2-5 at Snowbird, just outside Salt Lake City. It will focus on strengthening journalism skills, building knowledge and improving the status of women who make news and/or shape it. Count on expert speakers, inspiring panels and hands-on training – plus some play time with friends.
Fellowships are open to professionals in the early stages of their journalism careers. Applicants must have at least one year of professional journalism experience. Winners will be selected based on a combination of experience, merit, promise and financial need. Fellowships cover the registration fee, lodging and at least some travel expenses. In return, fellows contribute to coverage of the event.
Applications must be received no later than Sunday, May 31. To apply, e-mail your resume, a statement of up to 300 words explaining why you would like to attend, links or attachments to two stories or other work samples, and a letter of reference. E-mail to JAWS scholarship coordinator Carol Guensburg at carol.guensburg (@) verizon.net. If you need to send hard copies – or have other questions – contact Carol at 703-812-0545 in Arlington, Va.
