The Journalism & Women Symposium is now accepting applications for its 2012 competitive fellowship for our fall JAWS CAMP in Albuquerque, N.M. from Sept. 21-23, 2012.  For deadlines and information contact Becky Day.

The 2011 JAWS CAMP (Conference and Mentoring Project) took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Resort in Asheville. It focused on strengthening core journalism skills, building your brand and career, developing strategies for success in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape and improving the status of women in journalism. We all enjoyed a dynamic experience filled with inspiring speakers, motivating career development sessions, rewarding networking and mentoring opportunities — plus had time to mix and mingle with old friends and make new ones!

Fellowships are open to professionals in the early stages of their careers. We are looking for young journalists with at least one year of professional journalism experience. Winners will be selected based on a combination of experience, merit, promise and financial need. The fellowships will cover the registration fee and help with the other expenses of attending. In return, fellows will be asked to help cover the programs for the JAWS newsletter, website and blog. Fellows will also receive a free JAWS membership for the rest of 2012 and all of 2013.

Application deadline for the 2012 fellowships is June 20, 2012. To apply, in one email include a one-page resume, a statement of up to 300 words on why you would like to attend, links or attachments to two stories or other work samples, and a letter of reference. Email to fellowship committee chair Arnesa Howell at arnesah@yahoo.com. If you have any questions, please contact Arnesa at the aforementioned email address.
