The Journalism & Women Symposium is now accepting applications for its 2011 competitive fellowships of up to $800 for our fall JAWS CAMP in Asheville, N.C. from September 23-25, 2011.
This year’s JAWS CAMP (Conference and Mentoring Project) will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Resort in Asheville. It will focus on strengthening core journalism skills, building your brand and career, developing strategies for success in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape and improving the status of women in journalism. Count on a dynamic experience filled with inspiring speakers, motivating career development sessions, rewarding networking and mentoring opportunities — plus time to mix and mingle with friends!
Fellowships are open to professionals in the early stages of their careers. We are looking for young journalists with at least one year of professional journalism experience. Winners will be selected based on a combination of experience, merit, promise and financial need. The fellowships will cover the registration fee and help with the other expenses of attending. In return, fellows will be asked to help cover the programs for the JAWS newsletter, website and blog. Fellows will also receive a free JAWS membership for the rest of 2011 and all of 2012.
Application deadline for the 2011 fellowships is June 20, 2011. To apply, in one email include a one-page resume, a statement of up to 300 words on why you would like to attend, links or attachments to two stories or other work samples, and a letter of reference. Email to fellowship committee chair Arnesa Howell at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have any questions, please contact Arnesa at the aforementioned email address.
