CAMP 2015: Pre-conference workshops

JAWS CAMP 2015 l

***Registration for the pre-conference workshops are now closed and are at capacity***

If you’re looking for a pre-CAMP boost, we have two options on Friday, Oct. 9: all-day data visualization training and an afternoon “Book Camp.”

Data visualization

Data visualization is one of the growing fields in journalism. But you can’t produce an effective visualization without first understanding your data and ensuring its accuracy. In this daylong workshop, you’ll learn about both working with data and making it visual from top journalists, including Cheryl Phillips of Stanford University and Jennifer LaFleur of the Center for Investigative Reporting.

Book Camp: Come with an Idea, Leave with a Plan

Book Camp is a new program presented in honor of our 30th anniversary. It’s for writers who have a germ of a book idea, or a passion for a subject, or a story they have read or covered that might make a book. The session will be led by experts Jane Isay, editor and author of three and a half books; Gail Ross, agent and JAWS member; and Karyn Marcus, senior editor at Simon & Schuster, with a talent for thinking up book ideas. They will listen to your idea, ask you important questions, think along with you, and refine the idea so that it will be of interest to readers.
