Support JAWS

JAWS relies on the support of donors big and small, in addition to our membership dues and earned income. All board members endeavor to contribute at least $500 and many JAWS members contribute to our Annual Campaign. If you haven’t already donated, your support is always welcome. If you have already given, thank you.

With record attendance and the most ambitious program we have ever created, the JAWS 2012 Conference and Mentoring Project relied on the generous support of many. The Ford Foundation’s Freedom of Expression Unit provided significant underwriting to help support CAMP. They were joined by the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford, the Knight-Wallace Fellowships at the University of Michigan and the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in supporting CAMP 2012.  We also got many individual donations in support of our fellowship program to bring 10 promising young women journalists to CAMP.

Would you like your donation to support a special fund or JAWS project?  Want to donate in honor of a special person? Executive Director Becky Day can help direct your contribution if you have any special instructions. We are seeking partners for our 2012 conference Oct. 26-28 when we expect record attendance for the training, panels and speakers including Gloria Steinem. Our fellowship program, which brings women just starting their careers to CAMP, is an important part of our mentoring efforts. We also have a Legacy Fund to handle bequests, which provide long-term support of JAWS and our endeavors.

You can also buy a book and help JAWS at the same time. In association with Amazon.com, visitors can buy copies of any of the books on the page linked below. You get a cut rate, and up to 15 percent of the purchase price goes to JAWS.

But giving money isn’t the only way to help JAWS. We need volunteers to help with the website, the monthly newsletter, regional training events and CAMP. If you want to give us a hand with writing, editing or pulling together the best event of the year, please let Becky Day know and she will pass your name along to the right person.

Journalism & Women Symposium believes in mentoring. We care about helping each other to succeed. We care about young women entering the profession with optimism and ambition. We care about giving society a more accurate view of our world, one that includes women as sources, as reporters, as decision makers and as power brokers. With your support, we can continue to make a difference. Thank you.
