2017 JAWS Entrepreneurial Fellowship

Each year the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) brings an Entrepreneurial Fellow to our annual Conference and Mentoring Project (CAMP) for three days of training, networking and professional development. This year’s JAWS CAMP will be held at the The Arlington Resort Hotel and Spa in Hot Springs, Ark., Oct. 27 to 29, 2017.

What is CAMP?

The annual JAWS CAMP focuses on strengthening core journalism skills, building personal brands and careers, developing strategies for success in our evolving media landscape, improving gender parity in our profession, empowering women in leadership and management, and encouraging a more accurate portrayal of the whole society. Participants enjoy a dynamic weekend filled with inspiring speakers, motivating career development sessions and rewarding networking and mentoring opportunities. It’s an experience that has helped launch countless careers, and it’s also ignited lifelong friendships.

What is the JAWS Entrepreneurial Fellowship?

The goal of the JAWS Entrepreneurial Fellowship is to help a woman journalist move forward with an innovative journalism project. The fellowship offers a stipend that covers CAMP registration and travel expenses. Fellows also receive a one-year JAWS membership or renewal.

What does the JAWS Entrepreneurial Fellowship entail?

Fellows will be asked to blog the weekend’s events for the JAWS website and to help the JAWS’ fellowship fundraising campaign. Fellows will be asked to participate in and spread the word about our CrowdRise fellowship fundraising campaign throughout June and July. This year’s fellowships are financed by previous years of fellowship fundraising efforts. Fellows will also be asked to participate in promotional videos to help spread the word about CAMP and JAWS fellowships.

Who can apply?

Applicants should be journalists with a well-conceived project, the background that shows they can do it, and at least five years of professional experience. Preference is given to current JAWS members.

Please note: The JAWS Entrepreneurial Fellowship is open to international journalists, but the stipend only covers domestic travel.
