JAWS Welcomes Jesse Fernandez as Summer 2026 Intern
Jesse Fernandez is a University of New Mexico communications student interning with JAWS during summer of 2026.
Journalism & Women Symposium (JAWS) is proud to announce Jesse Fernandez as its summer 2026 intern.
Hailing from her hometown of Pearland, Texas, Jesse is a second-year communications student at the University of New Mexico (UNM). Jesse and fellow students established their high school’s first newspaper, where she served as opinions editor for three years. She spent her first spring semester at UNM as the Journalism Innovation Assistant for the New Mexico News Port, the university’s student news publication.
In her free time, Jesse loves playing Dungeons & Dragons with her friends, as well as exploring libraries and discovering new music. She will be the second person in her family to graduate from college, where she is also completing a minor in history.
“I have always had a deep love and respect for the community and space surrounding journalism,” Jesse said. “It’s an honor to be able to be a part of an organization that helps support women in the field.”
Jesse is an intern with the New Mexico Local News Fellowships and Internships Program, which places emerging journalists in newsrooms across New Mexico. Learn more at www.newmexicolocalnewsfellowships.org.
