GRANDVILLE, Mich. (Jan. 26, 2026) - Journalism & Women Symposium (JAWS) is pleased to welcome Julia Métraux to the 2026 Board of Directors to fill a seat vacated earlier in the month.

Julia Métraux is Mother Jones' first disability reporter, where she covers disability as it relates to politics. In addition to being a board member of JAWS, Métraux is also a member of the Association of Healthcare Journalists and the Disabled Journalists Association.

Métraux is also an alumna of UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and has received fellowships through JAWS, the National Press Foundation, Solutions Journalism Network, and the Gerontological Society of America. She copes with the world by FaceTiming her family dog.

“I'm excited to be joining the JAWS board of directors, and am thrilled to be contributing my perspective as a disabled and chronically ill journalist who aspires to make journalism more accessible,” Métraux said.

Métraux is filling a seat previously held by Jasmine Aguilera, also a former JAWS Health Journalism Fellow. JAWS thanks her for her time and service to the board.
