JAWS Welcomes Summer 2025 Intern Adelina Blea

Adelina Blea is a University of New Mexico journalism student interning with JAWS during the summer of 2025.

(GRANDVILLE, Mich.) - Journalism & Women Symposium (JAWS), the national nonprofit dedicated to the professional growth and empowerment of women journalists, is pleased to announce journalism student Adelina Blea has begun her summer 2025 internship with the organization.

Adelina was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and proudly identifies as a New Mexican. She is currently a student at the University of New Mexico studying journalism and mass communications and minoring in political science.

She has dedicated herself to multiple different areas of work based on her interests. Her love of reading and writing led her to become a bookseller at a local bookstore. Adelina also takes great interest in advocacy and politics, which pushed her to intern with Representative Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) in 2025. Her passion lies with nonprofit communication, and she is honored to have the opportunity to explore her interests.

In her free time, Adelina enjoys exploring New Mexico through camping trips and long drives, reading, gardening, journaling and thrift shopping. As a Chicana herself, Adelina hopes to show women and other Chicanas that they can do anything they set their sights on.

Adelina’s internship is made possible by the New Mexico Local News Fellowship and Internship program, a partnership involving multiple New Mexico universities. This program, run by the Communication & Journalism Department at the University of New Mexico, was designed to help students and recent graduates enter the field of journalism and communications.

Since 1985, the Journalism & Women Symposium (JAWS) has been for working journalists, journalism educators and researchers from across the United States. Members meet in person and online to share resources, support, training and information about the issues that affect women in the industry. JAWS advances the professional empowerment and personal growth of women in journalism and advocates for more inclusive coverage of the diverse experiences and cultures that comprise our society.
