Make a Gift Tax-Free to JAWS from your Retirement Fund
Here’s a Tax-Saving Way to Help the Journalism & Women Symposium
If you are 70½ years old or older, here’s a simple, tax-saving way to support our beloved Journalism and & Women Symposium (JAWS).
You can give up to $108,000 per year from your IRA (or SEP-IRA) directly to JAWS as a qualified nonprofit – without paying income taxes on that gift. This popular option is commonly called the “IRA charitable rollover,” but you may also see it called a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.
Here’s how easy it is:
Ask your retirement fund administrator to make a direct transfer to JAWS or to send a check from your account to us. To be tax free, the donation must go directly from your account to JAWS without passing through your hands. Have your IRA administrator send the gift to:
Journalism & Women Symposium
2885 Sanford Avenue, SW, #29226
Grandville, MI, 49418
(Federal Tax ID Number: 84-1077803)
Why Consider This Gift?
Your gift goes right to use, today. You’ll see the difference your donation makes to JAWS.
You pay no income taxes on this gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction. You benefit even if you do not itemize deductions.
After you’re 72, this gift can help satisfy your required minimum distribution for the year. Since it doesn’t count as income, this gift can reduce your annual income for tax and Medicare premium purposes.
Your IRA administrator must transfer the funds by Dec. 31. If you have check-writing features on your IRA, your check must clear your account by Dec. 31 to count toward your required minimum distribution for the calendar year.
