Angela Greiling Keane becomes JAWS president in board transition

Patricia Sullivan and Keeley Webster join board as organization looks to add new members and programs

Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) is pleased to announce the 2023-2024 Board of Directors, following a September election and installation at last weekend’s Conference and Mentoring Program (CAMP) in Chicago.

Angela Greiling Keane ascended to the position of president, after serving the last year in the role of president-elect. She will serve as JAWS president for the next two years.

“I am excited for JAWS to advocate for women in journalism, create more opportunities for growth and advancement in newsrooms and for independent journalists, and to equip women journalists with the skills and networks they need to excel in their work,” Greiling Keane said.

With a 25-year career as a reporter, editor and newsroom leader, Greiling Keane is news director at Bloomberg Government.

Patricia Sullivan, a past president of JAWS, joined the board in the one-year term of deputy vice president, while Keeley Webster, a senior reporter for The Bond Buyer, will spend two years in her new board director position. Gwyneth Doland moved into the position of secretary.

Alison Bethel, Cirien Saadeh, Linda Jue, Suzanne Cosgrove, Jill Cornfield, Sonya Ross and Barbara Selvin continue in their board roles. Bethel and Selvin were re-elected as directors.

Jennifer Kho, who had served as president since 2021, concluded her board service, along with secretary Tanya Gazdik and directors Amanda Crawford and Nadine Arroyo Rodriguez.

The board transition occurred during this year’s CAMP held in Chicago, the first planned urban conference held in JAWS’ nearly 40 years of gathering annually.

The full 2023-2024 board list, including photos and bios, can be found on the JAWS website.

About the Journalism & Women Symposium (JAWS)

Arising from a first meeting of women journalists in 1985, JAWS advances the professional empowerment and personal growth of women* in journalism and advocates for more inclusive coverage of the diverse experiences and cultures that comprise our society. We believe that by advancing women in journalism, we transform the world.

JAWS brings together working journalists, journalism educators and researchers from across the country to share resources, support, training and information about issues that affect women in our field. We meet in person and online in an atmosphere of mutual support and enthusiastic interest in one another’s differing experiences and journalistic dreams.
